The opening
Desert Soul opens with saffron and cardamom — warm, slightly leathery spice — cut by a bitter orange that keeps the start from becoming dense. It is dusk, not a spice market stall.
Incense and a dry rose ottoman build the heart with a date facet that is chewy, not sticky. This is the ‘oriental mystique’ of the label without costume jewellery. Architecture, not costume.
On skin
Amber, a whisper of oud, labdanum and myrrh make a trail that lasts. In air-conditioned rooms it is polished; in open evening air it becomes smoky and golden. Expect compliments from people who usually ignore perfume.
Unisex and formal. One spray on each wrist and the collar is plenty. It will stain very pale silk if you overspray — treat it like a resin, not a cologne.
